Last night before I went to bed there was a spider in the bathroom. I had already brushed my teeth and stuff, and it was right by the light switch so I just shut the door and went to bed.
I just went in there catch it (armed with the biggest glass I can find because this thing is huge), and it's moved. I can't see it.
I don't want to spend my day off having a spider hunt.
*sigh*

I am absolutely running with sweat.

It has been hot all day, I don't deal well with heat and have to dress for the arctic temperature they keep my office at, so going outside is not fun.

We ran out of work about 11am, and by 1.30 I couldn't take it anymore and left (unpaid) and shopped for 2 hours (£180 - too much stuff at boots (including 4 nail varnishes and a mascara), a pair of trousers, two hoodies, 10 T shirts).

Since I got home I have changed the insoles in my docs (the only work appropriate shoes I own - very stinky!) and the laces, deleted a bunch of emails, sorted my filing, and I just now finished empting my bag, throwing shit away and getting all the stuff out that had fallen through the holes in the lining. When did I have rice in my handbag? And why??

I was going to patch the holes but I think I am just going to reline the thing this weekend.

Then I swept outside, and hoovered the floor. I just now sat down - it is 10.15pm.

I am knackered. And even hotter.

Is anyone going to see Tony soon?

I'd love a lyric tank (Black, medium) if anyone could pick me one up and bung it in the post to me. God only knows if I'll ever get over to see a show.
I would of course pay for it and postage.

You'd also get my eternal gratitude. I have been wanting one of these for such a long time.

I am going to do a degree.

I have signed up with the Open University to do an Open Degree. As far as I am aware, this means you can do any courses and as long as you earn enough points, get a degree.

I am starting with Modelling the Climate in September and Exploring Mars in November. Hopefully these will give me an idea of where to go next (in a programming direction). I want to do this Oceanography course at some point. The rest will be a mixture of IT and science courses - hopefully each course will inspire me for the next one. I am still looking at an end result of data modelling.

I couldn't have got this far without you guys.

Thanks to [info]dalmeny for the advice (so long ago). I will be coming back for more when I've got these first few under my belt.

Thanks to [info]luvsbitch for proving that it is possible. Hearing you talk about the course you're doing has really put me in the right frame of mind to do this - you're an inspiration hon.

And general thanks to my whole flist for being such a supportive bunch whether you are in education and sharing your experiences reminding me that change is possible, and that it might be hard but I'll get through it and it'll be worth it or if you're just being you, exposing me to different lives and lifestyles, giving me ideas and dreams. Also, I know that you'll be here for me when it gets tough, supporting me through it, reminding me that I can do it. Thank you.

Wish me luck!

Gakked from [info]obsessedmuch and [info]bdbdb

Here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she wears mismatched socks." I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal.

I've just got back from my best mates house and am finally having something to eat (breakfast at twenty past four in the afternoon!).

Her boyfriend works on Liverpool Street and she called me about 12.30 absolutely frantic becasuse sh'e just woken up, seen the news, and couldn't get hold of him.So I went round and we've been chain smoking and drinking tea and worrying until just after 3 when he finally managed to call her.

He would ususally have been on that tube but had decided to walk this morning.

And her brother was suposed to be flying out of Gatwick this evening on holiday but as far as I know the airport has been shut.

What a day.

eta The radio just said that the busses are running again now in London, the Tube is still closed.

My Mum just rang and said a collegues sister just rang them and said there's been an explosion at Brighton station. Anyone heard anything?

eta a suspect package was detonated by the bomb squad but it wasn't a bomb according to the local news. The station is open again now.

Radio One news just said that the mobile phone networks are jammed so don't panic yet if you can't get hold of someone.

It's looking more and more likely that I'm going to get away next week (8th to 14th July), so here's where I ask the f/l for advice.

Where should I go? I'm thinking New York or LA but open to ideas. Is there anything cool going on?

I'm a confirmed pedestrian so I need a good area to base myself. I'm really looking for somewhere that has hotels, bars, cafes, restaurants, live music and good access to public transport all a walkable distance from each other - and somewhere that doesn't feel dangerous to walk about! Recs for affordable hotels would be great if you know of any.

I want to get out and see some gigs while I'm away. Any recs of people to see/good venues? I was hoping for Kane/Steve Carlson, Common Rotation or Tony Lucca but nothing has been announced yet (CoRo are playing the Hotel Cafe 16th - I have to be home the 15th!) - if you have any inside info that'd be great.

I'm told San Fransisco is day-trippable on the bus from LA, so any tips for there would be cool too.

I just want to be somewhere else for a while.
eta wow, that's more expensive than I was expecting. Like, more than double what I was bugeting. Well, shit.

So I got a letter this morning saying that my ISP (Wanadoo) intoduced a usage limit in May and I am exceeding it.

Anyone know of any reasonably priced, reliable ISP's that offer uncapped packages that they want to rec me? (UK based)

7:08 pm - from email updates received today
"KANE is releasing the new KANE CD titled "KANE: Acoustic Live in LONDON!" to a select group of fans in London this weekend. We are also planning on offering this CD to fans at Live Events in the US in the future. Who knows? We may even put this one up on the Internet too? This CD features 12 songs recorded acoustic/LIVE in LONDON (clever title, huh?) on October, 30, 2004. This CD also includes between-song stories and several new songs. Plus, both Christian Kane and Steve Carlson take a turn at some songs on their own. We'll keep you posted on this one; but we were so excited about it we just had to let the cat out of the bag..."

So what's going on in London this weekend? Can I go?

"Virgin Galactic is open for business! We are starting the process of taking reservations for the first year’s flights and will shortly be accepting deposits. Stephen Attenborough, Head of Astronaut Relations, recently enthused, “Our first astronauts will be pioneers in the true sense of the word; not only will they be amongst the world’s first commercial astronauts, but their early commitment will help to bring the project to fruition and pave the way for thousands of others to make the dream a reality".

Ticket prices for initial flights have been set at US$200,000. Flights are filling quickly but space is still available. Refundable deposits of at least $20,000 will be required to secure a seat."

Time to start that get rich plan. I wanna go up.

For as long as I've known my best mate Alex, she has been talking about how she regrets never seeing the Backstreet Boys live.
This was back in the day when I couldn't have picked a Backstreet Boy out of a line up. I promised her I'd go if they ever played over here, secure in the knowledge that they'd broken up and it'd never happen.
Oh, how times change!
I just bought us tickets to see them in October at Wembley.

Can anyone hook me up with an mp3 of Nick Carter's End of Forever?
I only recently figured out there were songs other than those on Now or Never (thank you Halo for Payback) and I think that's all I need to be done.

1. Go To Mapquest.com (I used multimap.com as mapquest is US only)
2. Click on Directions
3. Enter your Current Address and the Address of your Childhood Home (or at least the town if you don't remember the exact address)
4. Put the time and distance in a post like this.
5. Don't forget to repost these directions. (Not the door to door ones)

Childhood home to where I live now:
Telscombe Cliffs to Peacehaven - 1.5 miles (2.4 km) 00:05 minutes

My flat to where I live now:
Brighton to Peacehaven - 19.3 miles (31.1 km) 00:37 minutes

Furthest away I've ever stayed (apart from when on holiday - this was when I did a 6 week IT course):
Nantwich to Peacehaven - 243.5 miles (391.9 km) 04:17 minutes

Seen all over but gakked from [info]auntyk. Done mainly to contrast with all of you who seem to have moved miles from where you grew up.
